During their July meeting, Southside Baptist Church’s (SBC) SALT Women’s Ministry hosted Yancy Carpenter of Four Corners Ministry (FCM) of Opelika.
He and his wife Joy, who are former residents of Greenville and former members of SBC, went on their first short-term mission trip with FCM in 2006.
Since then, Carpenter has left his long-time career with Sysco to join FCM as their president.
FCM ministers to the people of Uganda north of the Nile where half of the population is under age 15.
The ministry, founded by Jimmy Sprayberry in 2001 with “one step of obedience,” began with caring for the many orphans in the region.
Since then, FCM has grown to include three orphanages, a Christian school, a medical clinic, a women’s refuge center, a 70-acre farm, and a pastor training facility.
“Jesus is worthy of worship from every tribe, people, language, and nation,” said Carpenter referencing Revelation 5:9. “We don’t have a master plan, but our Master has a plan.” Carpenter is passionate about getting God’s people engaged in His global mission and urges listeners to be part of the blessing of going and making disciples.
Carpenter shared that FCM has seen hundreds of first generation believers come to know the Lord, but the need is still great.
He asked that people partner with FCM by praying to the Lord of the Harvest for more believers, two long-term missionaries, and more short-term missionaries.
Other ways to support this ministry include financial gifts and supporting the Four Corners thrift stores in the Opelika, Roanoke, Talladega, and Valley areas.
To that end SALT Women’s Ministry is conducting a donation drive to benefit the FCM thrift stores.
SALT ministry leader Kim Stinson said, “SBC SALT Women’s ministry is excited to partner with Yancy and Four Corners Ministry in spreading the gospel and the love of Jesus.
“We will be collecting gently used clothing and household items to donate for sale in their thrift stores which will fund planting churches, supporting schools, and making disciples in Uganda. We are happy to be a part of God’s kingdom work”
Anyone interested in making donations may drop off clean, gently used items at the Southside Baptist Church Education Building on Monday afternoons between 12 noon and 4 p.m. or on Sunday mornings before worship.
All donations are greatly appreciated and must be dropped off before Saturday, Aug. 23. If you have questions, please call the church office at 334-382-6224.
