Norton promoted to Captain

A proud native of Greenville, Alabama has been recognized for her exceptional service to our nation with a prestigious military promotion.
Captain Nicole Norton, a 2009 graduate of Greenville High School, was officially promoted to the rank of Major in the United States Army during a ceremony held in June.
A standout student-athlete, Norton played on the Greenville High School softball team and participated in the school’s ROTC program.
She continued her academic and athletic pursuits at the collegiate level, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science while playing collegiate softball and participating in Army ROTC.
Since joining the U.S. Army in 2013, Major Norton has shown unwavering dedication, leadership, and commitment to service—qualities that led to her recent promotion.
In recognition of her achievements and deep hometown roots, the City of Greenville and the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce presented Major Norton with a gift basket filled with her favorite hometown treats.
A video message from Mayor Dexter McLendon was also shared during the ceremony, praising her steadfast service, dedication, and commitment to the United States military.
“Major Norton represents the very best of Greenville,” said Mayor McLendon in his video address. “We are proud of her accomplishments and grateful for her continued service to our nation. Her hard work, discipline, and patriotism are a shining example to us all.”
The Greenville community joins in congratulating Major Norton on this well-earned promotion and thanks her for representing her hometown with honor and pride.
